Vitamin and Supplement Toxicity - How to Avoid

Numerous people make the mistake of thinking that just because something is a vitamin or a natural supplement, it is safe. The truth is that while these supplements are usually safe when taken correctly, many people merely do not know how they are supposed to take them and many people overdose when using vitamins. If you take too much of a certain vitamin, you can end up with vitamin toxicity.
Vitamin and supplement toxicity occurs when you take too much of a particular vitamin or supplement and your body become poisoned by the chemical. What many people do not understand is that vitamins are important in small amounts to help keep you healthy and your body working as intended. Taking large does of vitamins can actually do more harm than good and in many cases can lead to poisoning as mentioned above.
In some cases, vitamin or supplement toxicity can lead to death. In most cases, people detect the signs and symptoms that they are getting sick and they pursue help or stop taking the supplements. Here is an summary of the types of side effects you may get from overdose of certain vitamins:
Vitamin A- An overdose of this can lead to headache, photophobia, anorexia, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, abdominal pain, irritability, seizures and more. Chronic intake of too much Vitamin can cause eczema, dry cracked skin, conjunctivitis, alopecia, blurry vision, frontal headaches, hypertension and more.
Vitamin D- An overdose of Vitamin D can lead to muscle weakness, apathy, headache, anorexia, irritability, nausea, vomiting, and bone pain. Chronic overdose can also lead to constipation, anorexia, abdominal cramps, polydipsia, polyuria, backache, hyperlipidemia, and hypercalcemia.
Vitamin E- Too much intake of Vitamin E can lead to nausea, gastric distress, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, easy bruising and bleeding, inhibition of platelet aggregation, muscle weakness, and creatinuria. Prolonged exposure can lead to suppression of other antioxidants, and increased risk of hemorrhagic stroke.
Vitamin K- Overdose of Vitamin K can lead to jaundice in newborns, hemolytic anemia, and hyperbilirubinemia.
Vitamins B-1, B-2, B-12, and folate   Overdoses of the B vitamins can lead to discoloration of the urine, tachycardia, weakness, convulsions, hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias, vasodilation and more.
Vitamin B3- Overdoses of this vitamin can cause flushing, pruritus, wheezing, vasodilation, headache, increased intracranial blood flow, headache, diarrhea, and vomiting.
Any vitamin or natural supplement can still be unsafe in large doses. It is important to be very cautious with the vitamins that you choose to take and be certain you are taking them in the proper doses so as not to poison your own body.
